Start with the Fisher

Current reference: v0.9.1.2; needs 1.0 verification. The Fisher, Captain Melville Fontane, is found at Ol' Captain's Rest. His crafting progression provides fishing rods, bait, diving equipment, and fish-based food and materials.

This is a beginner setup guide based on the existing Companion references. It does not contain a verified fish-location database or a complete bait table.

From rescue to your first fishing trip

1. Locate Ol' Captain's Rest and clear the surrounding area.
2. Interact with the Fisher's Cinder Vessel.
3. Return to a base within an active Flame Altar area.
4. Craft a Summoning Staff and place Captain Fontane.
5. Craft a rod and bait, then look for fishing spots near open water.

If you have not reached this progression yet, use the Survivors overview and Quest Order. The current Veilwater Basin route also links to Fisher progression.

Food and underwater preparation

The Fisher opens fish-based food and material crafting. Plan the rest of your supplies with the Food & Consumables guide. Exact fish recipes and buff values are outside this guide's verified dataset.

His diving equipment also supports underwater exploration, including the route associated with the Bard. Fishing preparation and diving preparation are related unlocks, but this page does not assume a particular item is required for every fishing spot.
