Enshrouded Mods and 1.0: What Happens to Modded Installs

Prepare a modded Enshrouded installation for 1.0 with backups, a clean update and a cautious compatibility check.

Last updated: 2026-10-01

Support and compatibility

There is no official mod support or Steam Workshop integration. Not yet confirmed: compatibility of individual third-party modifications with 1.0. A mod working on v0.9.1.2 does not establish that it will work after the update.

Confirmed (official): 1.0 changes combat and resets skill trees. Those announced changes are a reason to prepare carefully, not evidence that any particular modification will fail.

Before updating

  1. Close the game and stop any dedicated server you administer.
  2. Back up characters, worlds and configuration separately from the installation.
  3. Record which modifications you installed and how to disable or remove them.
  4. Disable modifications using their authors' instructions before installing the game update.
  5. Keep the final pre-1.0 backup intact while testing.

Follow the backup guide and save your checklist in launch preparation.

After updating

Verify the game's installed files through Steam's game Properties and Installed Files options. Verification repairs managed game files; it is not a substitute for removing extra third-party files according to the mod author's instructions.

Start with an unmodified installation. Read official save guidance and test a copied world before using an irreplaceable save. If there is a problem, preserve logs and the untouched backup.

When to re-enable modifications

Wait for authors to explicitly document support for the release build. Reintroduce modifications cautiously and retain the clean baseline for troubleshooting. Do not treat a successful first launch as proof that saving, multiplayer or progression works correctly.

See the skill reset explanation for the difference between the official reset and possible third-party compatibility problems.
