How to Update an Enshrouded Server to 1.0 (and Fix 'Server Not Showing')
Back up your world, update or validate the dedicated server, check startup logs, and diagnose version mismatch or a missing server.
Last updated: 2026-10-24
Start with a recoverable backup, finish the server update, then check startup logs before changing network settings. This checklist combines our existing troubleshooting, backup, and setup guidance. A complete dedicated-server migration procedure and new configuration keys are Not yet verified for 1.0.
1. Prepare a backup and stop the server
Ask everyone to log out, stop the server cleanly, and confirm the process has exited before copying saves. Copy the entire configured saveDirectory and server configuration into a dated archive outside the installation. Keep an off-device copy, check its contents, and record the installed version. Players must back up their characters separately.
Preserve the pre-update archive. Do not assume a converted save can be downgraded. Follow the complete backup checklist before proceeding.
2. Update or validate the installed server
Keep the server stopped during the update.
- Steam Library: update the Enshrouded Dedicated Server tool, then use its installed-file verification if files need repair.
- SteamCMD: use your existing installation directory and dedicated-server app ID. Run the app update with
validateand wait for successful completion. Do not substitute the client app ID or guess a new directory.
Preserve the configuration. File validation repairs installation files; it does not prove that a world migrated successfully. The config generator still needs schema verification against 1.0.
3. Restart and check for Host_Online
Start the server and read its console or log. Look for HostOnline and a transition to Host_Online. If startup fails, investigate the logged error and configuration before changing firewall or router rules.
Test a copy of the world before reopening access. If restoration is needed, stop the server, preserve the failed state separately, and follow the restore guidance. Confirm save/build compatibility rather than assuming rollback is supported.
4. Resolve a client/server version mismatch
Compare the installed client and server versions. Finish both updates, restart the server cleanly, and retry. An unfinished update is not evidence of a port-forwarding fault.
5. Fix a server that is not visible
- Confirm startup reached
Host_Online. - Check the configured server name and enable the dedicated-server filter in Enshrouded.
- In Steam, open View > Game Servers > Favorites and add the public IP with the existing configured query port.
- Check that the same query port is used in the configuration, firewall, router, and favorite.
- Test on the host, then the local network, then an external connection to isolate the failure.
Do not open speculative ports, disable the firewall, or put the machine in a DMZ. Continue with server troubleshooting if local access works but external access fails.
Managed host?
DatHost: our provider comparison records that it applies Steam updates within 15 minutes. Check the installed version and startup logs before asking players to reconnect. This provider statement is not a guarantee that an individual world's migration has completed successfully.
Other providers' update methods are not documented in our current host data, so they are intentionally omitted.
