Shroud & Exploration

How Shroud time, passage levels, roots, wells, and expedition preparation fit together.

Shroud time

Entering the Shroud starts a survival timer. If it reaches zero, the character dies. Strengthening the Flame increases base Shroud time from five minutes at Flame level 1 to thirteen minutes at Flame level 9.

Shroud Survival Flasks can temporarily add to the maximum timer. Time bonuses on gear and skills stack differently from temporary consumable effects, so always check the timer shown after entering.

Deadly Shroud

Red, deadly Shroud marks areas above your current passage level. You cannot brute-force it with healing. Strengthen the Flame, then return when the corresponding passage level is unlocked.

Roots and Elixir Wells

  • A Shroud Root grants 1 skill point the first time it is destroyed.
  • An Elixir Well grants 3 skill points the first time it is cleared.
  • World resets restore enemies and terrain, but do not grant those skill points again.

Clearing roots also removes local Shroud coverage, making exploration and harvesting safer.

Travel habits that save time

  1. Unlock Ancient Spires early; they are powerful glide launch points.
  2. Carry a spare Flame Altar for a temporary return point.
  3. Mark blocked passages instead of repeatedly testing deadly Shroud.
  4. Repair at a Workbench before leaving and carry consumables for the region's hazard.
  5. Use high ground to scout before descending into Shroud valleys.

Region-specific preparation

  • Albaneve Summits: bring frost resistance, warmth, and shelter options.
  • Veilwater Basin: prepare for swimming, diving, wetness, and Drak enemies.
  • Kindlewastes: reserve inventory space for ore and desert materials.
  • Hollow Halls: expect long dungeon runs and carry durable gear, healing, and light.
