Self-host vs managed hosting: the fast explanation
Self-hosting runs the server on hardware you control. There is no separate game-hosting subscription, but hardware, electricity and connectivity still cost money. You handle updates, ports, backups and uptime. Follow the dedicated-server setup guide.
Managed hosting pays a provider to run the machine and network while you manage your world through a control panel. It suits groups wanting a persistent world without maintaining an always-on computer. File access, backup retention, support and renewal prices vary by plan.

Supercraft: Low-cost entry and switching between games
The previously checked Supercraft listing starts at up to five players; eight players need its up-to-ten-player tier. Its prices remain dated October 16 because the provider page could not be reverified in this pass. Confirm availability and terms before ordering.
Trade-off: Groups above five players need a higher tier.
How much RAM do you need?
For a self-hosted server with 4–6 players, Keen Games' recommended server specifications are a 6-core/12-thread CPU, 16 GB RAM, an SSD with 30 GB free, and about 2 Mbit/s upload per player.
Managed hosts often sell smaller RAM tiers and their own recommendations vary, so check the host's guidance for your player count. A listed entry price is not a recommendation that its RAM tier fits every group.
Updating your server to 1.0
The 1.0 server build is required to match updated clients. Back up and download your world before updating. Update or restart from your host's panel, then check that the logs show Host_Online and that clients can connect.
Confirmed (official): each character's skill tree resets at 1.0. Read the skill-reset guide and remind players to reassign points at base.
Confirmed: Early Access saves work in the released 1.0 update through format conversion. Still under review: detailed dedicated-server migration steps and new configuration keys. The Server Config Generator retains its previous schema until checked against 1.0. Preserve your settings and consult official documentation before applying changes.
Use backups and migration, launch-week troubleshooting, and the post-update checklist while updating.
Which should you pick?
Before renting, use this checklist with your group:
- Count simultaneous players, then check both slot allowance and the provider's resource recommendation.
- Choose a datacenter close to your players. A long location list does not guarantee low latency across continents.
- Compare recurring cost for the same billing period, currency, tax treatment and required extras.
- Ask how to download and restore a world, how long backups are retained, and whether restoration costs extra.
- Confirm refund conditions before using a new server to test your actual world.

Do I need a dedicated server?
No. Player-hosted co-op works when the host is online. A dedicated server is useful when friends want a persistent world available independently of that player's session.
How many players can join?
Enshrouded supports up to 16 players. A hosting plan may offer fewer slots, so check the plan before renting.
Will my world carry over to 1.0?
Keen confirmed that Early Access saves carry over to the released 1.0 update through format conversion. Back up and download your world before updating; detailed server procedures still need verification.
Can PS5 players join a PC server?
PC and PS5 crossplay was not included at launch and remains unavailable in the reviewed release. Do not rent a PC dedicated server expecting PS5 friends to join.
