Getting Started
A spoiler-light route from the Cinder Vault to a stable first base.
Last updated: 2026-07-26
The first hour
Leave the Cinder Vault, collect twigs, stone, plant fiber, and wood logs, then craft an axe, pickaxe, club, bow, bandages, and a construction hammer. Accept the Flame's base quest and place a Flame Altar on open ground above the Shroud.
Your first base only needs four things:
- A roofed room with a heat source and a bed.
- A Workbench, which also repairs equipped gear.
- Storage beside the places where you craft.
- Space for rescued Survivors and their stations.
Good first-base rule: choose convenience over permanence. Flame Altars become fast-travel points, and you can build a grander home once you understand the terrain and production chains.
The progression loop
Enshrouded progression is deliberately interlocked:
- Explore to reach Ancient Vaults, Flame Shrines, Shroud Roots, and Elixir Wells.
- Rescue Survivors to unlock specialist crafting and quests.
- Strengthen the Flame to cross stronger Shroud and enter later regions.
- Upgrade gear and spend skill points to make the next expedition safer.
- Improve the base so preparation takes less time.
Rescue order
Prioritize the five foundational craftspeople in the Springlands: Blacksmith, Alchemist, Hunter, Carpenter, and Farmer. Their quests unlock the core metalworking, alchemy, leather, wood, farming, and cooking chains.
The Collector, Bard, Barber, and Fisher expand the base and open specialist systems later. Assistants duplicate a craftsperson's services at another base.
Before every expedition
- Refresh the Rested buff under shelter with warmth and comfort.
- Carry food from different food types so their effects can coexist.
- Bring a pickaxe, felling axe, ranged option, bandages or potions, and enough inventory space.
- Place a spare Flame Altar as a temporary fast-travel anchor when exploring far from home.
- Mark mines, farms, vaults, and blocked Shroud passages on the map.
Your first milestones
| Milestone | Why it matters |

| Glider | Makes towers and long-distance travel dramatically faster |
| Five core Survivors | Unlocks the main crafting economy |
| Flame level 3 | Opens safer progression into Revelwood |
| Magic Chests | Let nearby crafting stations draw materials from storage |
