The best early Salt source is Egerton Salt Mines in the Springlands. The Hunter's Salt Mine Location quest marks the mine on your map. Saline Quarry, southeast of the starting area in the first Shrouded valley, is a second verified source.

Best route for a first Salt run
Rescue the Hunter and follow the early quest chain until Salt Mine Location appears. The quest marks Egerton Salt Mines and asks you to collect Salt there, making it the easiest source to locate without relying on an external map.
If the quest is not available yet, Saline Quarry is southeast of the starting area in the first Shrouded valley. Both locations require Shroud awareness, so enter with a clear return route.
How much should you collect?
Take at least one or two full stacks if your pickaxe and Shroud timer allow it. Salt is inexpensive to mine but appears repeatedly in progression recipes, so gathering extra prevents repeat trips.
